Small portable objects tell the personal stories of people who lived in Great Torrington in the past.

We found a vast selection of pipe fragments, particularly within the embankment layers. Most of the fragments date to 17th century, but some are from the 18th and 19th centuries. Like other types of ceramic materials, this type of artefact survices really well in most soil conditions.
